Kudu Bokkies won first game

The women’s team of Kudu Rugby Club ‘Kudu Bokkies’ won their first game in the 2021 Namibia Rugby Unions (NRU) women’s league last Saturday in Okahandja.
The Kudu Bokkies beat a combined women’s team from the Okahandja Husky, s Rugby Club and Grootfontein Rugby Club 17 – 10.
The match started with jerks and bumps with many mistakes made but after the first try by Faisel-Lee Fjivava the players realized they can do it and then the match started flowing with two more tries from Tammy Lee Roodt and Kaurir-ronga Mungunda. Merilees Govender was successful with only one conversion.
The defence of the Bokkies were rock solid even though their opponents scored two tries. No one can actually be singled out but the team really showed true character and showed they can become a force in women’s rugby after the Long drought of women’s rugby in Namibia especially the fifteen a side. The Bokkies definitely have a pack of forwards that will be difficult to stop going forward.
The captain of Kudus premier league team Dariou Benson who accompanied the Bokkies contributed a great deal with his presence along the field.
The women’s coach Lionel Muller said that women’s rugby can only go from strength to strength if the NRU and the right role players can come on board to promote women’s rugby here in Namibia.
The team manager Valery Stevens that everyone came to make a difference on the field, there is of course still a lot to work on, but with the help from Coach Lionel Muller, the players can make their mark in the game of rugby.
“We are looking forward to the next league game and the women are terribly excited. Our practice sessions are going well, and I believe our FNB KUDY RUGBY CLUB will be proud’ Stevens said.
Kudu’s men’s teams return to action on Saturday to face Wanderers at the Wanderers rugby field in Windhoek for the second round in the 2021 Namibia Rugby Premier League against.
