Langstrand woman in court for hit and run

Charlet de Bruyn made a first appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrates court yesterday on a charge of among others culpable homicide.

De Bruyn allegedly knocked over and killed a man on the B2 coastal road close to Walvis Bay’s entrance on Tuesday evening at around 20:50. Instead of stopping, de Bruyn sped off and was subsequently arrested at her Langstrand home. She was traveling in a Ford Ranger when she knocked over and killed the man. The deceased’s identity remains unknown and the Namibian Police is currently appealing to the public to come forward to identify the deceased.
De Bruyn was denied bail and will remain in custody until her next court appearance on 11 February. Other charges against de Bruyn, relating to the incident, include reckless negligent driving and failure to stop at the accident scene to ascertain injuries as well as fleeing from the scene of an accident.
