“Last” Lucky Star marathon & cycle tour

Etosha Fishing Corporation (Pty) Ltd will be hosting its annual Lucky Star Marathon & Cycle Tour on Saturday, 1 October at the coast. This event is a high profile annual sport event, but Etosha also announced this week it would be the last year Lucky Star would sponsor the event.

Late registrations will be accepted on 30 September from 14:00 until 20:00 at the office of Etosha Fishing, 1 Rikumbi Kandanga Road, Walvis Bay. All registered participants will also have to collect their race numbers during this time.
An annual coastal event which has been sponsored by Lucky Star since 1985 and has been growing in popularity every year. It is organised by Etosha Fishing and serves as its main corporate social responsibility programme as school children from all 14 regions are sponsored to participate in this event. The countdown to 1 October has begun. Online registrations are now closed, but late registrations will be accepted today from 14:00 until 20:00 at the office of Etosha Fishing, 1 Rikumbi Kandanga Road, Walvis Bay. All registered participants will also have to collect their race numbers during this time.
Event information for runners:
42.2km marathon – (qualifier for the Two Oceans and Comrades marathons in South Africa) Race starts at 06:00 at Swakopmund Sport Stadium and after completing a section of the route in Swakopmund, athletes will follow the B2 coastal road to Walvis Bay to finish at the Jan Wilken Stadium. Est. 100 athletes participating
42.2km schools relay (4 learners per team) – Race starts at 06:30 at Swakopmund Sport Stadium and follow the same route as the marathon to finish at Jan Wilken Stadium. Est. 300 learners participating
21.1km half marathon – Race starts at 07:00 at Jan Wilken Stadium following a route onto the B2 towards Swakopmund up to a halfway mark and returns to starting point. Est. 200 athletes participating
10km fun run – Race starts at 07:00 at Jan Wilken Stadium following the same route as the half marathon up to a halfway mark on the B2 and returns to the starting point. Est. 200 athletes participating.
Event information for cyclists:
105km road race – (Namibian Cycling Federation sanctioned event) The race starts at the Jan Wilken Stadium at 06:55 and follows the route to the Walvis Bay airport onto the road behind the dunes between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund to a turn-around point on the Langer Heinrich mine road, to return to the finish line at the Jan Wilken Stadium. Est. 100 cyclists participating
21km mountain bike – starts at 08:00 at Jan Wilken Stadium following a route in the vicinity of Walvis Bay and the salt pans and finishes at the starting point. Est. 60 cyclists participating
21km fat bike – starts at 08:00 at Jan Wilken Stadium following an off-road route through the dunes in the vicinity of Walvis Bay and finishes at the starting point. Est. 30 cyclists participating
5km kiddies ride – a fun ride for children under the age of 10 years also starting at 08:00 and finishing at Jan Wilken with the other events. Est. 20 cyclists participating
The official prize giving ceremony will take place at the Jan Wilken Stadium from 14:00 onwards.
