Learners beat the Master in Coastal T20 Cricket League
Junior Cricket Academy (JCCA) ended third in the 2016/2017 T20 league and the young cricketers start the 2017/2018 league on a good note as they not only took honours in their first game on Saturday against the second team of Sparta Cricket Club (Sparta 2) when they beat them with 14 runs on their home ground and on Sunday they won their second game against the first team of Blue Water Cricket Club (BWCC 1).
The results of Sunday’s game between the host BWCC and JCCA was a surprise to the more senior and experienced men of BWCC 1 as well as for the coach of the Academy, Justus Hangula, as JCCA beat BWCC 1 with 24 runs in an excellent display of good cricket.
Regardless of the young Dian Neethling being bowled out with the first ball of the game, JCCA stayed cool and scored a massive 125 runs after 20 over’s. Gerhard Lottering did the best in the game as he scored 64 runs from just 47 balls. Dian Neethling came from rags to riches and caught four wickets in the game.
The captain of JCCA, Laurits Haccau, said that he is very proud of all the boys as BWCC 1 is a very tough team and that is was also tough to beat them but nothing is impossible. He further mentioned that it is good to win their first two games and that they will work very hard to win all their games and thus win the league.
The first game of BWCC 1 played on Saturday against Swakop 1 was a big one for BWCC 1 as they beat the team from Swakopmund with 166 runs.
Sparta 2 on Sunday won the toss and sent the first team in to bowl. The first team were all out for just 72 runs after 18.3 over’s. Sparta 2 needed only 73 runs to win the game and they did so in simply 11 over’s as Sparta 2 beat Sparta 1 with 9 wickets after losing the first game to JCCA.
BWCC 2 went to Swakopmund to play their first game against the second team of Swakop Cricket Club (Swakop 2). BWCC 2 could only manage to get 105 runs in their 20 overs. Swakop 2 needed only 14.1 over’s to reach the target of 106 runs. Swakop 2 won the game with 7 wickets.
The next games will be played on 24 September as Sparta 1 will host BWCC 1, JCCA will host Swakop 2 at the Walvis Bay Cricket Oval and Swakop 2 will host BWCC 2. All games will start at 10:00.
