Man dies in accident in port of Walvis Bay
A case of culpable homicide has been opened after the death of a Namport employee, Sackeus Amulungu (53), after an accident in the port of Walvis Bay on Wednesday morning.
Amulungu was reportedly directing a truck and a reach-stacker (large forklift) simultaneously when he was hit by the forklift, causing him to fall. In the process the forklift drove over his legs.
He was rushed to the Welwitschia Private Hospital where he received medical treatment for the serious injuries he sustained.
Although Amulungu received the best medical treatment possible under circumstances, he died on Saturday morning.
“It is very unfortunate losing an employee. We send the family our condolences and think of them in this difficult time. From our side, we will be investigating the matter thoroughly and learn from this terrible incident to prevent similar accidents from happening”, said Namport CEO, Bisey /Uirab in the aftermath of this tragedy.
