Massive container ship calls at Walvis Bay
The Namibian Ports Authority recently welcomed the 334 meters long container vessel Maersk Amazon. The vessel docked in very foggy and windy conditions at the new container terminal on reclaimed land. Testimony that the port of Walvis Bay is geared to handle shipping in all weather conditions.
About 625 containers were discharged and in the same vein 462 units loaded. This is Maersk Amazon’s maiden call to the Port of Walvis Bay. Maersk Amazon can carry 8 200 twenty feet containers (8200 TEU’s) and her draught is 10 meters. The ship’s width is 42.8 meters. The vessel headed for the port of Klang in Malaysia after her stopover in Walvis Bay.
