Mather and Els on par
The juniors Jonathan Mather and Willie Els from Walvis Bay golf club were the winners of the first two junior open Golf tournaments that were hosted by the Namibia Junior Golf Foundation.
Mather was victorious at the Omeya Junior Open that was held in January with Els the overall winner at the Rossmund Junior Open in February.
The NJGF used a merit list that span over a period of 12 months and includes 7 juniors- and 3 men’s golf tournaments. We chose the top 4 players on the merit list to fly the flag for Namibia in Gaborone Botswana at the annually All Africa Junior Championships.
They are: Willie Els from Walvis bay GC, Cilliers Sachse Omeya GC, Jonathan Mather Walvis Bay GC, Charlie Lohmann Omeya GC.
All the Africa countries are invited to this prestigious team event. The tournament is played over a four-day period, with 18 Holes per day. The best three scores out of four, count for the day. The winner of the All Africa Junior Golf Championships qualifies for the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
Namibia’s national junior team performed outstandingly well during the last year. With the golf clinic that was held in December 2018 and hosted by all well-known Val Holland from Fancourt GC George in conjunction with coaches, Jaco van Reenen from Omeya GC and Gert Olivier Walvis Bay GC, these 4 boys are well prepared.
The R&A is the main sponsor for the All Africa Junior Championships.
On behalf of NJGF we wish the national junior golf team all the best and know they will fly the flag high for Namibia.
The next local junior golf tournament will be hosted on 6 April at Windhoek Golf Club. We invite all juniors to participate in this tournament as this tournament will count for the merit list in selecting the next All Africa Junior Golf Championships 2020 that will be hosted in Egypt.
