Mayor donates parcels to shack fire victims

The Mayor of Walvis Bay, Cllr Trevino Forbes, accompanied by Miss Namibia Chelsi Shikongo, visited the fire victims of Twaloloka in Kuisebmond earlier this week. The mayor used the opportunity to hand out parcels containing sanitary pads, basic cosmetics, baby nappies, maize meal, baking powder, sugar, pasta, cooking oil, fish and mattresses.

People are living under very difficult conditions are having lost all their belongings and livelihoods in a devastating fire in the settlement.
The parcels were made available to the Office of the Mayor by Tunacor and the Namibia Red Cross Society.
“We will assist the residents affected by shack fires, to the best of our ability”, said Cllr. Forbes.
The mayor also took the opportunity to urge residents to renew their vigor in the fight against Covid-19. He said people must do their part in the struggle by regularly sanitising, to wear their masks correctly and to refrain from gatherings.
