Mother fears for her baby’s life as intruder violently grabs baby from its cot

Armed intruder terrorised a lone mother and her two babies in their home in Swakopmund: An extremely violent burglar broke into a house in Ocean View early yesterday morning, threatening the female victim and abusing her baby. He allegedly took one of her twin babies out of its cot and slammed him against the wall.

According to Dewald Swart of the Swakopmund Neigbourhood Watch (SNW) the incident occurred at about 04:00 yesterday morning at a house located in Leadwood Street. The suspect gained entrance by first removing a window from its aluminium frame close to the front door which he subsequently opened.
The suspect then entered to the main bedroom, where the female victim was sleeping. She was alone at home as her husband is away on business. “He woke her up violently and threatened her. He said if she calls the police he will kill her. He also took one of her twin babies and handled him like a puppet, slamming him against a wall before throwing him back into the cot,” said Swart.
Shortly afterwards he grabbed a laptop and her handbag and fled the scene, after which the victim pressed a panic button. Within minutes the security company, First Response, as well as members of the SNW were on scene.
Paramedics from E-Med Rescue 24 treated all the victims. The babies were fine and miraculously sustained no injuries. The victim was admitted to hospital though as she was suffering from severe shock after the ordeal.
“We spent the next two hours looking for the suspect, but were not able to find him. We lost his tracks at about 6:00 in the morning,” Swart continued.
Housebreaking cases in Swakopmund are on a sharp rise, especially in the northern suburbs where newer houses are built. Using a screwdriver, thieves remove a window from its frame very quickly and quietly.
