MVF Tatekulu Andimba Toivo ya Toivo
Namibia’s fisheries Minister, Bernhard Esau, re-emphasised the importance for the Namibian fishing industry to invest in vessels and land-based value adding facilities. The Minister said this yesterday at the quayside re-christening ceremony of the fishing trawler Katuka, owned and operated by Tunacor Fisheries.
Katuka was re-christened yesterday the Tatekulu Andimba Toivo ya Toivo (1924-2017), the late veteran liberation struggle icon, politician and long serving chairman of the Tunacor Board of Directors. Toivo ya Toivo died on 9 June 2017.
“Tatekulu ya Toivo was our Chairman for the last 12 years. His example inspired our values and his leadership and wisdom took us through the most difficult times to become the company that we are today. The naming of a vessel after him is just a humble and honest recognition to his figure which will give us the chance to honour him once again while his memory will stay with us forever”, Tunacor said in an invitation to those who attended the ceremony yesterday.
Also, a guest of honour at the event yesterday was former President Hifikepunye Pohamba who was also Namibia’s fisheries minister from 1996 to 1998 and a lifelong good friend of the late Toivo ya Toivo.
