N$5 000 reward for suspect who’s on the run for 14 years
More than 14 years after the brutal murder of a German tourist in the Usakos vicinity the Namibian Police is once again appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the key suspect George Natangwe Nyanyukweni Ananias (36). The police yesterday announced that a reward of N$5 000 is offered to the person who will provide information leading to the rearrest of the wanted suspect.
Natangwe is accused of ambushing and then shooting at a vehicle in which the German couple Helmut and Renate Gruber were leaving a Game Ranch in September 2002. He allegedly fatally injured Renate (48) and wounded the husband in the legs, while he was driving away from the ambush. Helmut, who is a police officer in Germany, survived.
The key suspect managed to escape from custody at the Karibib Magistrates Court in April 2003 as trial-awaiting prisoners were being handed over from one police officer to another, it was reported back then. He has been on the run since.
Yesterday the Namibian police issued an appeal to the public for assistance in tracing Natangwe. Besides the brutal murder he is also facing three cases of housebreaking and theft, which were allegedly committed in the farming areas around Usakos and Karibib. Natangwe is originally from the Omugulugwombashe Village in the Uukwaluudhi tribal district in the Omusati Region, but he was staying in Karibib at the time of his initial arrest.
Any person with information should contact Detective Chief Inspector John Mwatongwe at (064) 219044 or 081-246 1121 or the nearest police station.
