Nabta’s suspended President to face the music over false taxi fee increases at Walvis Bay

The President of the Namibia Bus and Taxi Association, Vespa Muunda, is due to appear before disciplinary committee of the Association in due course on suspicions he misused an official stamp on a letter in which drastically increased taxi tariffs were announced recently.

The letter turned out to be a fake and the “drastically increased” fees a hoax. Unfortunately thousands of daily taxi commuters had to pay these higher tariffs, some as many as 300 % more as taxi drivers were led to belief these was an authentic fee increase. Some people were even assaulted by taxi drivers when they refused to pay the increased tariffs.
Vespa was served with suspension letter in mid November and had to vacate his office with immediate effect, turn over all Association materials and documents or engage with staff.
See on this page a press statement in which the Namibia Taxi Association officially confirms no fee increase took place. The Association also makes it categorically clear that any taxi driver or operator continuing to charge these incorrect fees or engage in intimidating or aggressive behaviour towards taxi passengers will face the consequences.
