The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) will be Swakop Uranium’s contracted supplier of diesel to the Husab Mine for the next five years. The two entities signed an agreement in this regard recently. The contract is worth N$3.2 billion.

The contract includes the operation and maintenance of bulk storage, dispensing and a fuel management system.
Engen has been the supplier of fuel to Husab Mine for the previous five-year term, Angula Kalili, the chief operations officer of Husab Mine explained. Fuel supply contracts are essential to ensure continuity of supply of fuel for mining operations.
The managing director of NAMCOR, Immanuel Mulunga, said at the signing ceremony the con-tract was not given to NAMCOR on a silver platter. The Corporation had to compete with inter-national companies for the contract and had to pass tough criteria to stay in the race. Mulunga described the contract as a big milestone in the history of NAMCOR.
The public relations officer of Swakop Uranium, Frieda Abraham, added Swakop Uranium is committed to the Government’s National Development Agenda. “I believe this historic contract will once again re-affirm our commitment, to contribute to the Economic growth of Namibia by supporting Namibian Companies”.
The signing of the agreement took place at the Husab Mine site.
