Namibia Junior Golf Championship 2018

The Namibia Junior Golf Foundation hosted their annual Junior Golf Championships at Windhoek Outdoor Club. With both the A and B divisions played 36 holes on Day one and 18 holes on Day Two with the first 18 holes played in extremely difficult cold windy conditions.
In the A Division Jonothan Mather from Walvis Bay Private School took a one shot lead with Willie Els also from Walvis Bay Private School and Cillliers Sachse from WAB.
Day two In the A Division saw the battle between the Juniors continue with Willlie Els the winner of the A Division with 4 strokes. It was Willie Els’ second overall gross win this year in a junior golf tournament he also participated in the Junior Open in Scotland in July.
In the B Division Aden Beukes ran from Wind-hoek Gymnasium to the first 18 holes and was forced to withdraw on the 27th hole due to a back injury. Bertie Coetzee of Walvis Bay Private School won the division. Erastus Ndakalako was the overall net winner.
In the C Division, Pieter Laubscher from Windhoek Gymnasium was leading comfortable after two days and Yurie Ryvkine was second. Todd Parker from St Pauls and Sune Hougaard from Parkie’s Lower School participated in the Non Handicap division. Todd did not let a tree intimidate him, so he climbed into it to take his shot. With his positive mindset, he won his division with 4 points.
The development division, played 7 shorten holes, Tappie Katsvara from St Pauls, Kian and Tristen Engelbrecht from Parkie Primary School all enjoyed their golf for the two days.
The school league for Windhoek schools starts on Monday the 17th September and will be hosted at Windhoek Golf Club.
The top 4 schools in each division will compete against Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Tsumeb and Gobabis schools in the final round at the end of October. The top 4 individual juniors in the A and B divisions will then participate in a golf tournament and clinic in Fancourt Golf Club, George, South Africa.
Namibia Junior Golf Foundation offers 8 open tournaments per year, which count for a merit list for the A and B division junior players. The list is used to designate the top 3 juniors, the 4th junior will be selected for performance, for the All Africa team to be held in Botswana next year. This year’s All Africa was hosted in Morocco.
The last two junior open tournaments will be held at Tsumeb and Swakopmund.
