Namibian Women break records
Namibia National Women Cricket team was crowned Champions as they have been on a record breaking spree at the Botswana 7s T20I tournament in Gaborone.
Namibia Women’s team won their final match against Sierra Leone Women and remained unbeaten throughout the 6 matches played in the 7-nation event with team and player ranking points in ICC T20I rankings for all the participants except the Zambia Women’s team, which had 1 Botswana representative player in their squad.
Matches between the teams of host’s Botswana, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Lesotho and Malawi were considered for official T20I status and ranking points.
Namibia Women’s captain Yasmeen Khan was adjudged the Player of the Match in the final game while Adri van der Merwe was awarded the Player of the Tournament recognition for her performances in the tournament.
The final match between Sierra Leone Women and Namibia Women ended up as a one-sided affair as Namibia restricted Sierra Leone to only 80/4 in their 20 overs and then chased it down in 11.1 overs, making 81/1 in the process.
The batting and bowling records in the tournament have been dominated by players from Namibia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique and Botswana. To access the records.
Host’s Botswana and Sierra Leone are tied at the 2nd place in the points table with 3 wins from 4 games in the tournament. Mozambique Women have also clinched a maiden T20I victory out of their 4 matches while Malawi Women also registered their maiden T20I win over Lesotho Women on 22nd Aug 2018 (Score sheet unavailable at the moment).
The round of matches played saw Namibia Women break new Women’s T20I team records against Mozambique Women and Lesotho Women respectively. Mozambique was bowled out for only 25 runs for Namibia to claim the World record of dismissing a team for the lowest total ever, beating India’s record of dismissing Malaysia Women for 27 in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup held in Jun 2018.
The total match aggregate of only 51 runs was also a new Women’s T20I World record for the lowest match aggregate beating the total of 73 runs made in the match between Malaysia Women and Thailand Women in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup.
Their next match against Lesotho Women saw Namibia post the 3rd highest Team total in a Women’s T20I, reaching 210/5 in their 20 overs (bettered only by NZ Women’s 216/1 against South Africa Women and England Women’s 250/3 against South Africa Women). Namibia bowlers then restricted Lesotho to only 31/7 in their 20 overs to win the match by 179 runs, a new Women’s T20I World record, beating Pakistan Women’s victory over Malaysia Women’s in ACC Women’s Asia Cup by 147 runs.
Sierra Leone Women had a brilliant day out in the field as they beat both Botswana Women and Malawi Women to go joint 2nd in the points table along with the host’s.
Botswana vs Namibia
Namibia was honoured by a visit from The President of The Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Mogkweetsi Masisi and his wife the First Lady Neo Masisi who greeted Captain Yasmeen Khan on the pitch during the toss. Namibia won the toss and elected to bowl.Botswana loosing 4 quick wickets in first 6 overs with top bowling from Sylvia Shihepo taking 3 wickets in 4 overs 26 runs and spin bowler Kayleen Green with her 4 overs and 7 runs. Botswana scoring 93/4 in 20 overs.Namibia winning by 6 wickets in the 16th over. Good batting from Adri van der Merwe for her 28 runs of 39 balls and Wilka Mwatile 25 runs of 30 balls. Namibia won the toss and selected to bowl first. SL scored 83 runs with 8 wickets in 20 overs. Wilka Mwatile brilliant bowling with 2 wickets giving 15 runs only in 4 overs. Good batting by Kayleen Green 25 runs of 20 balls 4 x 4’s and Adri van der Merwe 28 runs of 28 balls 4 x 4’s.Namibia won by 7 wickets. Adri van der Merwe awarded Player of the Match 28/28.
Namibia vs Malawi.
Namibia won the toss and selected to bowl first. Malawi made 52 runs in 20 overs lost 8 wickets. Good bowling performance by the Namibian Ladies. Kayleen Green top bowler with 3 wickets in 4 overs and giving only 11 runs.
The Namibian Ladies good batting and winning the match in the 5th over. Yasmeen Khan opening batsman not out with 23 from 14 and Adri van der Merwe not out with 22 from 16.

Namibia vs Mozambique
Mozambique won the toss and elected to bat.
Namibia’s strong bowling attack and Mozambique batsmen all out in the 18th over with 25 runs on the score board. Namibia opening batsmen finished the match in the 3 rd over. Namibia won by 10 wickets. Player of the Match awarded to Namusha Shiomwenyo for her 3 wickets in 3 overs giving only 6 runs.
Lesotho vs Namibia
Lesotho won the toss and elected to bowl.
Namibia scoring 210 runs in 20 overs with brilliant partnership of 101 runs between the two openers Yasmeen Khan & Adri van der Merwe.
Namibian bowlers once again showed their strength and restricted Lesotho to only 31 runs. Brilliant bowling from Constancia Kauripeke 3 maiden over’s 1 wicket. Player of the match awarded to Captain Yasmeen Khan for batting 61 runs of 33 balls with 11 fours.

Namibia won the toss and elected to bowl.
Sierra Leone put 80 runs on in 20 overs for 4 wickets with brilliant bowling from Namusha Shiomwenyo 4 overs 6 runs. Namibia winning the match by 9 wickets in 11.1 overs. MOM awarded to Yasmeen Khan for batting 37 runs of 38 balls.
