Narrow escape in the Gaub Pass
Eileen van der Schyff
The occupants of a Volkswagen Combi had a close shave with death early on Tuesday morning on the C14 gravel road in the Gaub pass, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, where after it overturned and came to a standstill only centimetres from a cliff’s edge.
The combi’s trailer dis-attached during the accident and plunged close to a hundred meters down the cliff to the river bed. The trailer is a total wreck and is a grim reminder of how tragic this accident could have ended, had the combi also plunged over the cliff. The accident occurred about 185 km from Walvis Bay towards Solitaire. Two of the Combi’s occupants were treated for minor injuries at the Swakopmund State Hospital.
