NBC workers on strike

Workers of Namibia’s national broadcaster NBC downed tools yesterday, as part of industrial action over a wage dispute with their employer.

At the time of going to press yesterday there was not yet any agreement between workers and management to end the dispute. Broadcasting legislation prevents either radio- or television services to stop during this tools-down situation. Pre-recordings are therefore played on a continuous basis, as failing to do so can mean the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) can suspend the NBC’s broadcasting license.
