Nine shacks gutted at Swakopmund

Nine shacks were destroyed in Swakopmund on Friday. East wind conditions worsened the situation. The fire rapidly spread among the shacks resulting all the nine shacks being razed to the ground.

The fire started after the power outage between 12:00 and 13:00 at the single Quarters, Moshitila Apartments. Members of the Namibian Police and the Swakopmund Fire Brigade worked hard to extinguish the fire. Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Gurirab confirmed no serious injuries or loss of lives. There are suspicions that the owner of the shack that first caught fire forgot to put off his stove after the power outage. Any assistance from the public to help these people rebuild their lives would be welcomed and appreciated.
