No bail for baby dumping suspect

Marine Kooper (23), mother of the abandoned baby girl found in a suitcase next to the railway line in Narraville on 19 May made her first appearance before Magistrate Vicky Nicolaidis on Friday. Kooper was refused bail and remains in custody.

Kooper was arrested on Wednesday in Swakopmund following a tip-off received from the public. She was initially charged with child abandonment and neglect, but the charge was changed to attempted murder in conjunction with the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act.
A trusted source close to the investigation has suggested that police are looking into the suspects social media page for details of what lead to the incident. Due to the serious nature of the offence, the state strongly opposed bail.
