NovaNam invests N$320 million in deep-sea trawlers

NovaNam, the community of Lüderitz and its stakeholders celebrated another milestone as they inaugurated two brand new deep-sea trawlers. The trawlers were acquired at the cost of N$ 320 million.

MFV NovaNam One and MFV NovaNam Two are the second and third brand-new deep-sea fishing trawlers inaugurated at the Port of Lüderitz since Independence. The first vessel, MFV Lalandii1 was inaugurated in 2020.
This investment is part of NovaNam’s strategic investment plan, wherein NovaNam committed to a fleet investment programme of N$ 480 million for three brand-new built vessels between 2019 and 2021. The purpose of the vessels is to feed its value-addition factory at Lüderitz where 1500 processing staff members of NovaNam pack for the globally renowned seafood brand of the Nueva Pescanova Group.
The construction of these new fishing vessels has at all times kept true to the crucial aspect of sustainability and has kept true to the four pillars of the NovaNam strategy in terms of its Corporate Social Responsibility. These pillars are People, Planet, Product, and Communities.
The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Honourable Derek Klazen, said with these new vessel investments in Lüderitz, NovaNam will be contributing towards the Food and Agricultural Organisation’s Blue Growth initiative as well as the Blue Economy in building and sustaining a vibrant coastal community in this part of the world.
Klazen said, “It is therefore in great appreciation of the reliance of this town on fishing that I believe we will soon see a notable improving in the social, economic and environmental benefits for this community given its dependence on fisheries.”
