After being on the run for three months, the two Maturura robbers made their first court appearance at the Swakopmund Magistrates Court before Magistrate Nelao Brown and State Prosecutor Johannes Shangadi earlier this week.
Kephas Jonas (25) and Andreas Daniel (24) were arrested for aggravated robbery and theft of a motor vehicle in an undercover police operation at the DRC Informal Settlement on 2 January 2022. The duo has been on the run since October last year. On 26 October 2021, the two robbers overpowered and assaulted 73-year-old Dr Sean de Jager at his home in Mondesa’s location, Matutura. After tying de Jager to a chair, the robbers stole two cell phones, locked de Jager in and sped off with his car. De Jager eventually managed to free himself and informed the police. In early November, parts of de Jager’s vehicle were found along the Walvis Bay Airport Road (C14), as well as in a garage in Kuisebmond. According to the Crime Investigation Coordinator in the Erongo Region, Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu, the owner of the garage has also been arrested for his part in the crime.
