One dead after weekend gangfight at Usakos

The police in the Erongo Region is investigating a murder case in Usakos after a gang fight in the Onghulumbashe location on Saturday evening ended up with at least three people being stabbed with sharp objects. A 19 year-old male was arrested after allegedly killing Junias Shipopyeni Anyemba (25) and injuring his friend.

The incident was confirmed by Erastus Iikuyu, Acting Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator for Erongo. It is alleged that at about 21:50 the deceased and his friends were involved in an argument with the suspect and his friends at a bar in Onghulumbashe location. What initially was only a quarrel ended up in a gang fight with the suspect allegedly hitting one of the deceased’s friends with a cup in the face. After the assault the suspect fled the scene and ran to his house where he hid in a cupboard. The deceased and a friend followed the suspect to his place, where they found the suspect’s sister. They allegedly attempted to assault her, but turned their attention to the suspect when he jumped out of the cupboard. The fight started over again.
“The suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased once on the left side of the neck and he died on the spot. The deceased’s friend was also stabbed in the forehead and on his arms, but the injuries are not serious,” Iikuyu revealed. The suspect, who also sustained minor stab wounds, was arrested.
The police is investigating the matter. It is not yet clear what caused the gang fight.
