One life lost in fire incident at Karibib

Josefine Beukes (47) was burned to death when a shack which she was sleeping in caught fire on Sunday around 03:40 at the Harambee informal settlement in Karibib. The body was burned beyond recognition.
In a statement, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said it is alleged that the deceased came home from her drinking spree as narrated by deceased’s sister who is her neighbour. “The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at this stage but it is suspected that the deceased might have slept while a candle was still alight. The shack has been razed to the ground during this incident”, added Iikuyu. The body of the deceased was taken to Walvis Bay Police Morgue for postmortem. Next of kin informed.
