The Swakopmund Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Swakopmund Branch held a gala dinner to honor its sponsors for the support they have provided over the years, which enable them to once again host the annual SWAITEX 2018, this past Saturday at The Dome in Swakopmund.

Now in its sixth year of operations, the Swakopmund International Trade Exposition (SWAITEX) is constantly improving and adding value. This year they have collected over N$750 000 from corporate sponsors including Erongo Red, Standard Bank, First National Bank and Namport. SWAITEX is scheduled to take place from 10-13 October under the theme: “Local Economic Growth through International Trade”.

The objectives of the expo are to provide an opportunity for business and community stakeholders to display their products and services to the public while at the same time forging networks ad business linkages for economic growth. The Mayor of Swakopmund Pauline Nashilundo said: “We have high expectations that as SWAITEX grows, it will attract investors and tourists and will be a real catalyst for increased trade and investment, resulting in employment creation in Swakopmund and putting the Erongo region into the next gear to accelerate economic growth”.

Speaking at the dinner, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Bernhardt Esau said: “Our economy has in recent years been under pressure, especially form global economic headwinds which have seen global commodity prices decrease, hence causing economic slowdown”.
