Pirates eyes win over Die Basters to move to third position on the log
Pirates (Walvis Bay) took on Coastal Uranium (CU) of Swakopmund at the SFC (Swakopmund Football Club) on Saturday in a Namibian Social Football League match. Julius Ashipala opened the scoring figures in the 15th minute for CU.
CU’s striker, Pandapa Shannika, added the second goal during the 25th minute. Half time the score was 2-0. Pirates had their much needed first goal five minutes into the second half by Diego Fransman.
Shahide Hamvries scored an equaliser 2 minutes after Fransman’s goal.
With the score board at 2-2, CU charged back with a goal by Darra Beukes in the 60th minute. But, CU’s 3-2 advantage was short lived and it ended painful when Jihaad Daniels scored two successive goals, respectively in the 62nd minute and 65th minute.
The final score: Pirates 4 and CU 3.
“We were too relaxed, which almost resulted in our defeat. Thanks to some tough words by the two coaches during the half time break we were back in shape for the second half”, said Wilfred Muller, Chairman of Pirates. It is Pirates’ second win and one draw in the last 3 games. Pirates is now 4th on the log and hope to climb the ladder to third position if winning Die Basters, which is currently the log leader.
