Police delivers Erongo drug dealers another hard blow
The police in the Erongo region has given the drug trade yet another painful blow with a total of five suspects arrested for the possession of various drugs, including mandrax, cannabis and cocaine valued at more than N$30 000.
This success was recently revealed by Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo.
According to Iikuyu the police arrested the first three suspects during a drug operation at Usakos. Terence Gurirab (28) was arrested at his house in the Hakhaseb suburb on Friday at about 21:00 after he was found in the possession of 130 grams of cannabis; nine mandrax tablets; one half mandrax tablet; one quarter mandrax tablet and 105 “balies” of cannabis. The total value of the drugs is estimated at N$2 375.
Another suspect, Alfred Sakaria Angula (30), was arrested two hours later at his house in the same suburb on charges of dealing in drugs. The 30-year old Usakos resident was allegedly in the possession of sixteen units of crack cocaine; one block of cocaine; thirteen full mandrax tablets; one half mandrax tablet; one quarter mandrax tablet; 154 balies, one bankie and two parcels of cannabis (865 grams) valued at N$12 175.
The third Usakos suspect, Oswald Hochobeb (47), was arrested on Saturday at about 1:30 at his house located in Saamstaan location. This suspect was allegedly in the possession of 775 grams of cannabis; one unit of crack cocaine and one full mandrax tablet valued at N$7 950.
Two more suspects were arrested at Swakopmund in Mondesa on charges of dealing in drugs. The first arrest occurred on Saturday at about 11:45. Jimmy van Wyk (23) was allegedly in the possession of ten grams of cannabis and three mandrax tablets, valued at N$400.
A short while thereafter, at about 12:00, German Garab was arrested at his house in Mondesa. He was allegedly in the possession of 765 grams of cannabis valued N$7 650. All suspects have appeared before a magistrate and the cases were postponed pending further investigation.
