Police officer latest suicide victim at coast

A police officer committed suicide at around 13:20 in Swakopmund on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Sergeant Daniel Akawa. He hung himself at his home in Mondesa he shared with his girlfriend.

According to Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo Region, no suicide note was left.
The diseased’s next of kin were informed.
The late Sergeant Akawa was stationed at the Swakopmund Police Station. The coast is also experiencing a surge in suicides. Last Friday a pastor ended his life at Walvis Bay. Over the weekend a security company owner shot and seriously wounded his son before turning the gun on himself and committed suicide.
