Portugal Day
The Portuguese community of Walvis Bay celebrated Portugal Day or Portuguese Day over the weekend with several festivities that took place on Saturday and yesterday (Monday). Although this is Portugal’s national day (9 June), Portuguese speaking people from all nationalities celebrate this every year on 10 June with a feast of Portuguese cuisine, Portuguese cultural events and rejuvenating family and friendship ties with cheerful house parties or more official events such as Portuguese Day that was celebrated at a local hotel in Walvis Bay on Saturday night.
The local Brazilian expatriate community of Walvis Bay celebrated Portuguese Day yesterday with cheerful parties that brought welcome colour and atmosphere to Monday. Portuguese Day commemorates the death of one of Portugal’s literary icons, Luís de Camões who died on June 10, 1580.
