Public to take protest to Russian vessel on Sunday

Dozens of members of the public are expected to join protest group Anti-Plunder Action on Sunday on a number of small vessels at the Walvis Bay waterfront and yacht club, to sail to the Russian vessel Ryazanovka to hand over a petition to the vessel’s master.

The vessel is marred in controversy after it emerged in recent weeks the vessel owner launched an application with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources for the capture of live dolphins, seals, penguins and killer whales for aquariums in Asia (Also See report on page 3).
A decision to protest at sea by taking small craft out to the Russian boat at anchorage in the bay area was taken on Wednesday night during a public meeting. It was decided interested parties will meet at 10:00 at the Walvis Bay Yacht Club to board boats that was made available by volunteers to hand a petition to the vessel’s master.
