Rain exposes the ugly side of Nam

The rain that fell over large parts of Erongo this week made for the most beautiful sights for road users. However, there were also an ugly side exposed – rubbish and litter that drifted in the large water puddles that formed next to the roads.

Mogamat Salie Saban, a truck operator, sent in these photos he took of plastic bottles and plastic bags being washed along flowing rivers and floating in the rain puddles.
These photos were taken between Swakopmund and Arandis.
Saban expresses his utter disgust in the amount of rubbish in our beautiful desert. Saban said to namib times it is really an eyesore and wants to bring more awareness to people in the Erongo Region about keeping our desert clean. Specifically, road users who fling bottles, plastic bags and other litter out car windows. Many don’t clean up after using roadside resting spots and this presents an unsightly image of Namibia in the advent of the holiday season when tens of thousands of visitors will be flocking to Namibia.
