Rains wash away railway track north of Kranzberg – train derails

The railway line connecting the coast with the north of Namibia has been disrupted about 40 kilometres north of the Kranzberg station located in the vicinity of Usakos.
A part of the railway line washed away during the night of Thursday to Friday after heavy rains fell in the area. A freight train, which was on its way towards the coast, derailed during the night, suffering major damages. According to the national railway carrier TransNamib heavy equipment is required to repair the track. There is no indication how long repair work will take and when the line will be passable again. Nobody was injured during the incident.
