Romanian Couple recovers from Coronavirus
The Romanian couple that was Namibia’s first Coronavirus cases has recovered and arrangements are made for their return to their homeland, the Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Kalumbi Shangula says. Namibia has three people who tested positive so far for the Coronavirus (Covid-19), thereby bringing to one the person still in recovery.
Whilst this is good news for Namibia, a Dutch air carrier carrying 35 returning Namibians from the Netherlands landed at the Hosea Kutako International Airport at Windhoek over the weekend. The people were all brought to a quarantine facility.
According to Ben Nangombe, who is the Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the passengers are both Namibian-born and permanent residence holders.
The health ministry said the passengers were screened on the plane. Immigration formalities were done on the plane. Upon disembarking the people were taken by buses to an isolation facility.
“We are not allowing any other flights in, as per our state of emergency. The only reason these 35 people came into the country by flight is they are classified returning Namibians and as a country we cannot deny them entry”, explained Nangombe.
Nangombe also confirmed that the passengers are being held under supervised quarantine where they will be monitored.
