Search for oil and gas continues for Namibia

A seismic survey is to commence in the days to come some 260km off Lüderitz in the ongoing search for oil and gas reserves in Namibia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The survey will cover an area of 3 000 square kilometres and is expected to conclude in March.

The survey is carried out on behalf of Galp, a Portugal-based energy com-pany linked to a global energy network.
The survey is contracted to Polarcus UK Ltd and the research ship will use the port of Walvis Bay as replenishing base for the survey. The license to conduct the survey was granted in August 2016 (PEL83 license) to a Galpled consortium which also includes the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) and Custos Energy. The total area covered under this license is 10 000 square kilometres, Galp said in a statement recently. (Also see page 6 of today’s edition).
