Security guard commits suicide with service pistol

A security official turned his 9mm service pistol on himself yesterday morning between 09:00 and 10:25,  at house no. 3778 in Mondesa’s Oletweni location. Tjitjeja Hiiho (23) died of a self-inflicted single bullet wound the police confirmed.

According to the spokesperson for Nampol in Erongo Region, Commissioner Erastus Ikuyu it is alleged the deceased yesterday morning reported for duty as usual at Rubicon Security. Hiiho booked out a 9mm service pistol with five rounds, and asked his supervisor to drop him off at Woerman Brock Supermarket (Mondesa), so he could pick up his cell phone. The supervisor dropped him off as per his request and a few minutes thereafter he received a text message from Hiiho in Otjiherero stating: “I know we have been together, don’t think too much just go and bury me.” Upon receiving this message, the supervisor drove back to the Woerman Brock Supermarket where he dropped off Hiiho. When he could not find him, he drove to Hiiho’s place of residence.

He found Hiiho’s family there. The family informed the supervisor that Hiiho shot himself. The spokesperson said the text message was sent from the deceased’s cell phone number and was sent shortly before the suicide.

A source close to the deceased revealed that Hiiho had threatened to commit suicide over the weekend, but he didn’t say why he wanted to do so. Hiiho’s mortal remains were transported to the police mortuary (pictured). The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
