Seven coastal players in 7’s team

Seven players from the two coastal towns Swakopmund and Walvis Bay were selected in the Namibian Sevens Rugby Team that will depart on 10 October to participate in the Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Tournament on 13 and 14 October in Monastir Tunisia.

The players Chad Plato, Ngume Nguaiko, Daniel Bock, Lloyd Jacobs, Carlton Stevens and Aurelio Plato the captain of the National Sevens Team are all players from Kudus Rugby Club in Walvis Bay with Camlo Martin that hails from Swakopmund and plays for UNAM Rugby Club in Windhoek.

The Twelve teams that will compete in the 2018 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Tournament that will be played over two match days are Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Botswana, Ghana and Mauritius.

The winning country be crowned as the 2018 African Champion and will participate at the Hong Kong Sevens in April next year that is the qualification for the HSBC World Series and Olympic Rugby Sevens as required.

Namibia participated in the 2016 tournament and lost in the final against Uganda that is also the reigning 2017 Champions. Namibian is in Group D and will play against Madagascar and Zambia.

Namibian Sevens Team was at the harbour town over the past weekend as the guest of F45 Training where the team did two sessions.

Andrea & Craig Williams from F45 Training said, “We are grateful for them taking up our invitation to train with us before departing for Tunisia and that we do believe that the players benefit from training at F45 Training studio”.

“We at F45 Training wish them success, many tries and look forward to joining F45 Training Walvis Bay for a few more sessions” Andrea added.

The players said that they enjoy it and that it was very good to be at F45 Training studio and encourage all sport men and women to join F45 Training.

Andrea also mentioned that F45 Training will open a studio in the 2019 in Windhoek and looking forward to see more national teams and club joining them.

The team held a coaching clinic at the sports field of Walvis Bay Private High Schools with about 20 children from different schools at the harbour town. The coach Les Bougard and some of the National players said that as the children are the future for the sport therefore it was a great pleasure to help them. There were a few children that did touch a rugby ball for the first time and some children do have a natural talent that just need to be developed.
