Several drug arrests across Erongo
The Namibian Police made several cannabis-related drug arrests at several towns in the Erongo Region in recent days, sending a strong message that cannabis remains an illegal substance and that the possession, growing and processing of cannabis will not be tolerated.
Two suspects were arrested in Swakopmund’s Kramersdorp suburb on Saturday, as they were dealing in 285 grams of cannabis valued at N$14 250. They were arrested in the suburb’s Windhoeker Street.
The suspects are Nathan Brian Damants (30) and Charles Edward Cook (52). Both made first appearances in the Swakopmund magistrate’s court on Monday and were released on bail of N$3 000 each. They are scheduled for a next court appearance on 23 March this year.
On Tuesday, the Namibian Police arrested two Usakos residents for the possession of cannabis. In both cases the alleged perpetrators were found in possession of cannabis plants and dried leaves.
Christo Lorenzo Steenkamp (32) was arrested by drug law enforcement officers at his home in Leutwein Street at Usakos. During a search of his premises five cannabis plants and dried cannabis leaves were discovered, valued at N$6 250.
Steenkamp made a first appearance in the Usakos magistrate’s court on Wednesday and was released on bail of N$4 000 Steenkamp returns to court on 3 March.
On the same day, officers arrested Esmé Scheffers (48) at her home in the Erongosig suburb. She found in possession of 345g of cannabis and one cannabis plant. It is valued at N$3 400.
Scheffers made a first appearance in the town’s magistrate’s court on Wednesday and was released on bail of N$3 000. Scheffers’ next court appearance is also scheduled for 3 March.
On Wednesday, police officers arrested two suspects in Kuisebmond at Walvis Bay for the possession of 41 bankies of cannabis, valued at N$2 250.
The two persons is scheduled to make a first appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrate’s court today.
