Ship’s exhaust fumes mistaken for a fire in the port

People inundated the Namib Times with calls on Wednesday shortly after the lunch hour, reporting the presence of a huge, white smoke plume in the port of Walvis Bay and that something was ablaze.
A brief investigation determined though the smoke plume was the exhaust fumes of a ship starting up. The hot, windless east weather day provided the perfect atmospheric conditions for the plume of smoke to be carried eastwards over the port and even parts of residential areas between 5th Street and Sam Nujoma Avenue.
