Some exciting news from Rossmund

Well the past weekend was exciting in more ways than one for some of the Rossmund Golfers.

For some of the Rossmund Golfers that travelled to Windhoek to participate in the final of the 2019 Windhoek Lager International Pairs Tournament played over two days at Omeya GC and WGC &CC. Rossmund was well represented with 2 Ladies Pairs and 3 Men’s Pairs qualifying.
Three of whom finished in the top ten out of a field of 40 – our Ladies Team consisting of Lucille Abrahams and Rina Knight finished in 2nd place overall on 87 points – only one point behind the winners Florian Allers and Robert von Prittwitz; also winning the Ladies Section with 13 points ahead of their nearest rivals. Well done to all our golfers and especially to Lucille & Rina and their fantastic win – a trip to Portugal later in the year.
In the meantime 32 Rossmund golfers took to the home fairways in search of those much valued Merit List points in the monthly Destination Swakopmund competition – this time around a multiplier that led to some interesting scores.
There was only one 2-club coming from Peter Witt. Winners: 1st Steven Johns/George Murasiki 79 points, 2nd Achmet Abrahams/Bertie Saunderson 77 points, 3rd Helmut Ndjendja/Thomas Shitaleni 74 .oinpts and 4th Gerhard Byeveld/Johnny Flook 68 points.
On Wednesday 14 August we had some great Spar vouchers on offer compli-ments of Prestige Accounting – thanks Fritz for ringing in the changes and giving my brain a rest – we had a good field of 35 players the majority of whom did not have a great day.
Two players managed to score a decent 38pts – this meant a count out once again was necessary – won by Peter Fox over Cashbox van Wyk – Achmet Abrahams was just one off the mark with 37pts. Our 9 hole winner was Mario Polster with a superb 22 points – with Andrew Cunningham missing out by one point. Well played to all and thanks to the sponsor of the day.
On Wednesday 21 August was sponsored by Williams & Knight Insurance Brokers – Oom Billy was in control of proceedings with a ring of the bell and some snacks on the table. Weather conditions were great after some hectic east wind in the morning – bringing in some good scores. Nearest to the Pins were on offer by 7 & 12 these were won by Bertie Saunderson and Johan Kok (great to see you hitting the ball again) – Gary Knight came into the clubhouse with an excellent 41 points to take the 18 hole prize followed by Lucille Abrahams on 38pts whilst Warren Theron played the Best Front Nine with 21 points. Well played to all and thanks to the sponsor for a great day.
Saturday 31 August was Monthly Medal Time- otherwise known as the Novanam/Pescanova Feeshing Competition – prizes consist of boxes of beau-tifully cleaned and packed fish – what a bonus.
The course remains in an excellent condition with greens running smoothly but at times a tad too fast for some. Weather conditions were slightly on the cooler side, however this did not deter the field of 31 players.
There were two-clubs coming from Mario Polster and Stanley Gawanab. Results – Overall Medal Winner: Mario Polster 68 nett; “A “Division: Likius Nande 74 nett (c/o), “B “Division: Thomas Shitaleni 71 nett, “C “Division: Peter Bassingsthwaighte 69 nett, Ladies: Rina Knight 74 nett, Junior: Jonathan Mather 76 nett.
As always a great word of thanks to the sponsor and to all the players for a great day of golf.
The Dulux Finals were held at Omeya GC over the weekend with Helmut Ndjendja/Justine Shikulo taking first place and Warren Theron/Bertie Saunderson coming home in third place. Well played.
Wednesday 4 September was sponsored by I Tyre – the afternoon was a bit windy at times but a great time was had by all including our Namibian Men’s Team putting in a bit of practice for the All Africa Tournament coming up at the end of the month in Mauritius. Nearest to the Pin on Number 7 went to Achmet Abrahams; 18 hole winner was Chris Wood with 40pts followed closely by Bertie Saunderson on 38pts; our 9 hole winner was Stanley Gawanab with 20pts over the front nine. Well played to the winners and thanks to Kiffie Du Rant from I Tyre who also joined us on the day.
