Some Golf news from Rossmund

A field of 40 brave golfers set out in near arctic conditions to play the annual Nedbank Betterball Medal on Saturday 3 August at the Rossmund Golf Course.

Real golf they call it – not this Stableford stuff. Three players managed to score two- clubs on Number 7 – George Murasiki, Gerhard Byle-veld and Stanley Gawanab. There was a three way tie for first place – finally going to the partnership of Kevin Wentzel/Luandre Duvenhage (Kevin is playing good golf at the moment shooting a two under par off a zero handicap) 65, 2nd Sebulon Tsuseb/Graham Louw 65, 3rd Rina Knight/Gaby Adams 65, 4th Achmet Abrahams/Bertie Saunderson 66, 5th George Murasiki/ Steven Massipa 66. Well survived to all and a great word of thanks to the sponsor Nedbank for a great day of golf.

Previous Competition Results:
The Swakop Service Station – Engen Golf Day on 24 July. Scores were close with a count out for the 18 holes – which was won by the master of count outs – Athol McLean over Okkie Oosthuizen both with 39 pts. Our 9 hole winner was Achmet Abrahams with a well played 20 points over the front whilst Gerhard van der Merwe went away with the Nearest to the Pin on Number on Number 7. Thanks Michael for the vouchers.
We had some Absolutely Perfect Water up for grabs on 31 July. The clubhouse had a great vibe due to our Namibian Team Captain Kevin Wentzel having shot a Hole in One on Number 16. Once again count outs were the order of the day – the 18 Hole winner was Willie Van Zyl over playing partner Kevin Wentzel both shooting 41 points. Peter Bass won a 4 way count out to take the 9 Hole prize with Helen Bottger getting Nearest to the Pin on Number 12. Thanks Neil and Berdene – we really appreciate the support.
Saturday 27 July was Monthly Medal time as always sponsored by Novanam/Pesca-nova Fishing was held on Saturday 27 July. We still managed to have a field of 29 players following the two corporate days – well done to all the survivors. There were 4 x 2-clubs coming from Kevin Wentzel; Athol McLean; Grant Mather and Bertie Saunderson. Overall Winner with a 66nett was Rudi Auseb; Grant Mather took the “A “Division with 68 nett, “B “ Division winner Bertie Saunderson 69 nett, “C “ Division winner was the MR himself Clive Lawrence 75 nett, Rina Knight was the Ladies winner on 72 nett, Junior for the day was B Gawanab – recently upgraded from the Development Program with a well played 72 nett.
The SAGES action kindly sponsored by Frans Blaauw from Puma Chemicals was held on Sunday 28 July with some great ham-pers on offer.
There was a good field of 24 players out there in the chilly morning air – only Achmet managed to get onto the greens with the Nearest to the Pin prizes – Lucille would have been smiling at those bottles of Amarula. Overall Winner was Dougie Smith 38 points, 2nd Bertie Saunderson 35 points, 3rd Achmet Abrahams 34 points, 4th Tienie van Rensburg 33 points, 5th Clive Lawrence 31 points – as always everyone was a winner and went home with something to celebrate. Frans you are a star and a very active behind the scenes member of the club.
Divots & Pitch Marks – we have noted that lots of these little devils are appearing all over the course especially on the tee boxes – we remind each and everyone to please carry sand and to fix them as you see them not only when you make one.
Caddies – several members are using caddies without ma-king the N$10 donation to the Caddy Master – he is trying his best to keep control – which benefits all the members. Please remember that Caddies who participate in Corporate Days are to play from an 8 Handicap or less – this is a Rossmund Club ruling.
Coming up:
