Sparta beats JCCA in Coastal 40 league

On Sunday 19/02/2017 there was a nail biting cricket match at Sparta Club between Sparta and JCCA.

JCCA won the toss and decided to bat first. Mias Strauss and Enrico v/d Westhuizen opened the batting and frustrated the home team. Enrico was eventually caught after he scored 47 runs from 55 balls. Mias went on to make 63 runs from 81 balls before being given out on LBW. Lauritz Haccou came and made a quick 56 from 52 balls. After 40 overs the visitors had a total of 271 for the loss of 5 wickets. At this stage many people thought that JCCA had the game in hand and that it would be a walk in the park.
Nian Grobler and Colin Peake opened the batting for the home team.
These two batsmen had a record breaking partnership of 156 runs before Colin lost his wicket to Enrico v/d Westhuizen. Colin scored 56 runs from 57 balls. Lauritz Haccou then took a quick wicket. Esau Heynes came in and assisted with the batting scoring a quick 40 runs from 33 balls. Nian Grobler scored 112 runs from 102 balls before losing his wicket. At that time Sparta needed 24 runs from 18 balls. The middle order batsmen stood their ground, taking the home side to victory with two balls to spare.
