Rudi Bowe

A total of 7 teams participated this year in the Sparta Hockey Clubs annual 6-a-side Hockey tournament at the Sparta Sport Club on Saturday 3 November. The winning team was Hotnos 2.0.

The 6-a-side is held by Sparta Hockey club on the first weekend of November every year to raise funds for the clubs traveling and accommodation expenses during the year for national league games in Windhoek.
The tournament is open for teams to enter in under 14, under 18 and a senior division with only 9 players allowed per team. This year was not a good one for the Sparta Hockey club as only the following teams Dream Team, Goals Galore, Hotnos 2.0, Blue Line Babes, Walvis Braaiers, Untouchaballs and Rugby entered for the senior division and no entries were received for the under 14 and under 18 divisions.
A few rugby players from Walvis Bay Rugby Club entered as Rugby was the newbie’s playing a sport totally out of their comfort zone representing Sparta Hockey club in the tournament played their first game against the Walvis Braaiers with things looking good for the Walvis Braaiers, but after finding their feet Rugby made their mark beating the Walvis Braaiers 6-4. The Untouchaballs made a big statement scoring 11-1 against the “Goals Galore” in their game. Things got a little heated between the Walvis Braaiers and Untouchaballs. Hotnos2.0” met the Dream Team in their match, but it seemed like there would be very little competition for the Hotnos 2.0 on the day. New faces were also encountered during the day with the Blue Line Babes showed that there are some uncharted talents in the area. As the day went on it seemed the place for 1st would be hard to contest with. 2nd, 3rd and 4 would be a very close call.
The final 3 games of the day saw the teams placing as follow:

1. Hotnos 2.0
2. Rugby
3. Untouchaballs
Individual awards of the day went to:
Top Goal scorers Senior Division: Polito Hendricks and Tannon Groenewald (both scored 11)

Player of the day men: Tannon Groenewald
Player of the day women: Estelle de Beer
Thank you to everyone who entered and thank you to Namibian Breweries and Sparta United recreational Club for the prizes sponsored this year.
