The Portuguese, Afrikaans and English teachers in collaboration with the Portuguese community under the leadership of Elizabeth de Brito and with assistance from Adriana Teixeira and Hilya Nghililewanga held the first of its kind Spelling Bee at the Harbour town.
An electric atmosphere prevailed throughout the Spelling Bee with learners from ISWB and Duinesig Secondary School competing in Portuguese, Afrikaans and English languages for the first time.
The director of the Portuguese College Camöes Namibia, Angelina Costa said “It was a wonderful opportunity for students from different schools and back-grounds to get together and interact socially in three different languages. These type of initiatives motivate the students to learn about the language and culture they study in school,”
The winners of the spelling bee were Leonardo Ramos (ISWB) for Portuguese, Helvi Shuudifonya (Duinesig) for Afrikaans and Blessing Lídima (ISWB) for English.
