Standard Bank Betterball Scramble Drive

The Annual Standard Bank Betterball Scramble Drive took place on Saturday 11 May with a fair field of golfers who entered the fray at Rossmund Golf course.

Weather conditions were good and so was the golf. Scores were close and various count outs were needed to determine the winners. A few fines were handed out at prize-giving which is always good for a laugh.
There were nearest to the Pin prizes on all the par 3’s – these went to No.3 George Murasiki, No.7 Michael Ludeke; No.12 Theo Haimbondi and No.16 George Murasiki.
Winners: 1st Dean Kock/Des Benson 48 points c/o, 2nd Michael Ludeke/Gert Breedt 48 points, 3rd Lesley Steven/Helmuth Ndjendja 47 points c/o, 4th: Thomas Shitaleni/ Stephanus Bonifacius 47 points, 5th: Athol McLean/Graham Louw 44 points; 6th: Steven Johns/George Murasiki 43 points c/o.
Thanks go to Standard Bank for their continuous support of golf at Rossmund; Mr Samuel for attending the prize-giving and to all the golfers.
On Wednesday 15 May some breakfast vouchers was on offer compliments of the Club-house Kitchen. There was a good turnout and a great buzz in the clubhouse. Winners on the day over 18 holes were Athol McLean 38 points followed closely by Tony Boesch (great to see you back in action) 37 points – whilst the 9-hole prize went to Fritz Coetzee winning a count out.
The monthly SAGES competition sponsored by Silvio Suardi were held on Sunday 19 May in cold, misty and wet weather conditions with a fair field of dye hard golfers that came to the party.
It was great to see that our Sages numbers are growing and improving due to the ongoing migration of all the new pensioners moving down to the coast from Windhoek.
Unfortunately Silvio Suardi was not able to join us for the day – however Rossmund Golf Club is always thankful for his continuous contributions towards Senior Golf at the coast.
Results: Tony Boesch & Achmet Abrahams both had two-clubs on Number 7 with Tony also securing the nearest to the pin – whilst the honour on Number 12 went to Bertie Saunderson. Winners: Tony Boesch 34 points, 2nd Achmet Abrahams 33 points, 3rd Gaby Adams 32 points. Well done to all the players who went home with a bit of liquid refreshment.
Golfers for some reason never miss the negative things going on in and around the golf course however seldom notice the good things taking place – with this in mind we say thank you to a few sponsors and members who have donated towards various improvements on the course over the past few months:-
New Pin Flags – initiative led by Andrew van Schalkwyk + all his sponsors – take time to see who they are by reading the flagsticks.
New Fairway Distance Markers – Nambrick and Gary Knight (Measured to the front of the green)
New Ball Washers on No.7 and No.12 Tee boxes – compliments Steve Bassingsthwaighte and Benno Froese.
New Recycle/Rubbish Bins installed by each tee box – displaying the length (tee to middle of the green); stroke etc. of each hole compliments of Rent-a-Drum.
New Green to Tee Box Direction Signs compliments of Arch Solutions.
Coming Events:-
Saturday 25 May will be the next round of the Monthly Medal sponsored by Novanam/ Pescanova
Wednesday 29 May sponsored by Absolutely Perfect Water
An International Pairs Qualifier is scheduled for Saturday 1 June to be played in conjunction with the Bank Windhoek Golf Day.
Thought for the week:
The trouble that most of us find with the modern matched sets of clubs is that they don’t really seem to know any more about the game than the old ones did.
Happy Golfing
