Subject: Reported Xenophobic Attacks In The Republic Of South Africa

Following the recent media reports of criminal/xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in the Republic of South Africa, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation would like to inform the Namibian nation as follows:

The reported criminal/xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals took place in the informal settlement of Springfield, Durban in the province of Kwazulu Natal.
The Ministry would like to inform the public that there are no reports of any Namibian nationals caught up in these incidents.
The Ministry further wishes to inform the Namibian public that the situation in the affected area has since cal-med down and there is no alarm for concern.
For any Namibian wishing to visit the Republic of South Africa, to pursue studies or carry out any other programs, official or private, it is adviced that it is safe to travel.
The Ministry, through the Namibian High Com-mission in Pretoria, will continue to monitor the situation and inform the public accordingly.
