Swakop Golfer wins Central Open

Swakopmund golfer Likius Nande was the winner of the Windhoek Lager Central Open that were held at the Windhoek Golf and Country Club (WGCC) over the weekend.

A total of 49 players from all over Namibia, including five from Walvis Bay, six from Rossmund, one from Grootfontein, four from Tsumeb, six each from Omeya Golf Clubs, and 27 from Windhoek competed in the tournament with 18 in the A division, 17 in the B division and 14 in the C division.
Windhoek Lager congratulated WGCC in respect of the excellent course conditions and elaborated on Windhoek Lager’s sponsorship focus and that they will continue sponsoring the Africa Championship but only for the A division and with the focus in golf sponsorship shifting to the International Pairs, which is drawing huge numbers of players.
Nande completed the 54 holes with a gross score of 216, to finish well ahead of second-placed Christopher Durant on 223. The best nett category was won by Terus Burger with a total of 205 as he beat Deldrich Katti (205) on a count out.The A division was won by Walter Heibeb with a gross score of 229 with Kevin Wentzel second on 230 while Michael Hoeseb had the best nett score of 217 to finish ahead of Meriki Shoozi (218).
The B division belonged to Mario Polster with a gross score of 245 with Joseph Martin on 248 in second and the best nett was won by Toady Gurirab with a score of 214 and Ian Wood second on 220. In the C division Borris Erasmus was the best player over 36 holes with a gross score of 184 and David Peake second best with 187. Jacques Rayners won the nett division with a total of 153, finishing ahead of Chris Okamaru (155).
