Temporary rail crossing at 14th Road opened 18:00 yesterday

A temporary railway crossing opened at 14th Road in Walvis Bay yesterday. The temporary crossing will now enable DM Rail to close the Rikumbi Kandanga railway crossing as well as the Hanna Mupetami railway crossing (18th Road crossing) to upgrade the railway line.

Traffic flow between Walvis Bay town and the western industrial area and fish factories will be channeled via this temporary crossing for approximately four weeks.
Walvis Bay’s traffic chief, superintendent Eben Platt this week called on motorists to exercise patience and caution at this temporary crossing.
Note: the Namibia Ports Authority’s port expansion plan for Walvis Bay will make provision for the permanent closure of the 13th Road railway crossing in a few years from now. This crossing will then permanently locate to 14th Road where this temporary crossing is now.
