Test drive on bike ends in tragedy

The community of Walvis Bay was stunned by the unexpected and tragic death on Tuesday night of Elgrego Swartz (28), a much loved resident of the harbour town. Swartz was test driving a motorbike in Swakopmund, with the option to buy it, but he lost control of the bike and it crashed into a boundary wall killing him on impact.

Swartz is believed to have seen the bike advertised on sale on Facebook and on Tuesday travelled with a friend to Swakopmund to have a look at the motorcycle and to test it. The bike (N119570W) was shown to him at a house in Swakopmund’s Ocean View and he took it from there on a test drive shortly after 21:00.
It is believed Swartz lost control of the silver Yamaha motorcycle within seconds after he started the test drive and it crashed into a boundary wall of a nearby residence. Swartz is believed to have succumbed of serious head injuries. Swartz leaves behind his father, mother, sister & brother.
