The Blue Whale is open

Walvis Bay boasts a new feather in its tourism hat. The Blue Whale Hotel opened its doors on Kovambo Nujoma Lane, overlooking the lagoon. The opening was marked by a most enjoyable function on Monday night.

The hotel has 19 luxury rooms and was completed at a total cost of N$25 million. It offers a unique experience in the sense that excellent service, the best amenities a hotel can offer and that at the backdrop of the beautiful natural surroundings offered by the Walvis Bay lagoon and the nearby Namib desert.
Mayor of Walvis Bay, Alderman Immanuel Wilfried was the guest of honour at the opening and said he was deeply impressed by the fact that as many as 60 % of staff employed at the Blue Whale Hotel were previously unemployed. It not only offers people much welcomed opportunities in these challenging financial times, but the investment the owners of the hotel made pushes the boundaries for Walvis Bay as a tourism haven and an investment oasis.
Rooms are designed for those who prefer an intimate atmosphere with a stylish, unique spirit. All rooms have an en suite bathroom, flat screen television with cable and satellite channels, Wifi, personal safe, mini bar fridge an a study desk. The day can be ended with a sun downer and the swimming pool can see to lazy days in the sun. The restaurant offers both a la carte and buffet lunches and dinner. The restaurant is open to the public and also offers breakfast.
“During the past couple of years we have witnessed Walvis Bay receiving various large investment projects. It definitely placed Walvis Bay in a class of its own and also in a class of it own when considering the town’s contribution to GDP”, the mayor concluded in his keynote address at the opening.
The mayor acknowledged the involvement of local sme’s during both the establishment and operating phases of the Blue Whale Hotel and called upon all businesses to increase their involvement with local suppliers.
The General Manager of the Blue Whale Hotel, Ena Scott, in her address said friendly and knowledgeable staff will always be ready to meet and exceed the expectation of guests. From accommodation to day visitors, the Hotel offers a true deep ocean theme and the restaurant rounds this off with a casual dining experience in a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
