The Novanam Monthly Medal
Once again it was time for some real golf at Rossmund with the Novanam Monthly Medal otherwise known as the “feeshing competition”.
It was great to see that the 30 + field consisted of contenders in all the divisions – it has been a while since this was the case – great to see the juniors around on a Saturday – makes one realise golf has a future.
As always it is good to see the smile of the sponsor – Michael Tordesillas – out there enjoying a round of golf; officiating at prize-giving – we thank him for all the time and commitment he gives to the Rossmund Golf Club.
Weather conditions were just great for golf – very little wind hence the good scores and lots of two clubs on the cards – coming from Des Frank-fort (2); Willie van Zyl; Clive Lawrence; Fanie Terblanche. The Overall Medal Winner for the Month was George Murasiki with a brilliant 67nett; “A” Division: Willie Van Zyl 70nett; “B” Division: Sebulon Tsuseb 71nett; “C” Division: Chris Magson 81nett; juniors: Justin Naobeb 74nett; Ladies: Rina Knight 73nett. Well played to all and enjoy the feesh.
The Atlantic Villas Sun-day Sages was played on 28 March with a good field of 29 players. The competition with accommodation vouchers and some liquid refreshment up for grabs was great and evenly greater to have our friends back from across the river Estelle & Chris Bothma also some new Sages Danie Steyn; Danie Pienaar and Dreyer Du Plessis.
In the end the day belonged to Heidi van Niekerk with an excellent 42 points – showing that she can really play golf – having more or less recovered from a recent injury and the cut in handicap – having moved down from Windhoek. 2nd Place went to Des Benson 37 points; 3rd: Achmet Abrahams 36 points count out over Tienie van Rensburg; 5th: Hans Ovlisen 35 points countout over Billy Knight and Dreyer Du Plessis. Billy has not faired very well with count outs in the past week.
The Rossmund Tooth Fairy was played on Wednesday 24 March with small field of players and everyone had a good time – noise in the clubhouse is always good. Scores were close with lots of count outs to determine the winners: 18 Holes: 1st: Clive Lawrence (our new Mr Pensioner to be) 39pts: 2nd: Willie Van Zyl 37 pts (winner of a 3 way count out over Billy & Kevin – oh those short holes). 9 Hole Winner: Cashbox van Wyk 21pts over the back nine (3 way count out over Billy & Gerhard – nice birdie on the last)
