The Welwitschia XI Cricket Team did it in style

The Welwitschia XI Cricket Team won the first two T20 cricket games against Mariental Cricket Club and United Cricket Club Walvis Bay at the Sparta oval on Saturday in style.

The first game against Mariental Welwitschia XI bowlers, Christoher Coombee (4), Ben Shikongo (1), Mauritius Ngupita (1) and Zhivago Groenewald (4) did all the work as they bowled the visitors all out for just 37 runs from 14.2 over’s. Francios van Wyk scored 14 runs from 24, balls the highest runs scored in the game.
Welwitschia XI reached their target of 38 runs with just 4.4 over’s with Romario Scholtz out for 6 runs and with Christoher Coombee and Lauritz Haccou scoring 13 runs each. Welwitschia XI won the game with 9 wickets.
The second game of the day saw Welwitschia XI beat United Cricket Club from Windhoek with 56 runs. The Welwitschia’s bat first and were all out for 99 runs of 20 over’s. Gerhard Lottering of the Welwitschia’s scored 38 runs from 42 balls before he was caught by Luan Reinders from United.
Zhivago Groenewald took four wickets in just three of his overs. The Welwitschia captain was in a class of his own on the day as he took 8 wickets in the two games he played. The Welwitschia’s bowled the visitors out in 12.3 over for only 43 runs.
The next game for Welwitschia XI is on the 7th October 2017 against Wanderers and Windhoek High School in Windhoek.
